Team Needs: Tennessee Titans |
|
Hurtin' for: a receiver
How do you invest in a young, shaky passer like Vince Young and then surround him with maybes like Justin Gage, Roydell Williams Brandon Jones – not to mention maybe-nots such as Chris Davis, Paul Williams and Mike Williams? The addition of tight end Alge Crumpler should help, but the team needs a threat or two on the outside as well. Oh wait, they did just bring back Justin McCareins …
If I'm Vince Young, I'm quitting the team if the Titans come out of the draft's first day without a new receiver.
Should be lookin' for: a defensive end
Last season, it looked like the defensive line was the one place the Titans needed no help. A few months later, Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy have found multi-year contracts elsewhere. The starting job opposite Kyle Vanden Bosch and near Albert Haynesworth is a plum gig, but Jevon Kearse is not the full-time answer for it. Maybe Bryce Fisher emerges a year after coming over from
Seattle during training camp, but drafting a player such as Clemson's Phillip Merling or USC's Lawrence Jackson could help keep a strength from becoming a weakness.
Will likely settle for: another running back
Coach Jeff Fisher has already said that the team wouldn't hesitate to grab another runner in Round 2 if it liked a guy there, despite using second-round picks on backs in each of the past two drafts. Now, that might be typical pre-draft smoke-blowing, or it might be a concession that the previous pair of second-rounders has yet to establish real success. LenDale White was solid in his second season but might not be more than a short-yardage back. Chris Henry remains an unknown after a four-game drug suspension became the most memorable part of his rookie season. Chris Brown is gone. The Titans could also use some depth on the offensive line, at defensive tackle and in the defensive backfield.
