Team Needs: Washington Redskins

Hurtin' for: a receiver
Santana Moss is a little like alcohol: He can be really good when used in moderation, but you're asking for trouble by relying on him over the long haul. The guy has explosive speed but only two 1,000-yard seasons in his seven-year career. He has started 16 games once and surpassed 61 receptions just twice. Washington needs to pair him with someone a bit more reliable, a steady, constant target, and that guy ain't Antwaan Randle El. With the 21st pick in Round 1, the team could be in prime receiver territory, as the top players in this year's class seem to carry late-first or early-second round grades.

Should be lookin' for: linemen
Jon Jansen is one of the best right tackles around, but he's 32 and has missed two of the past four seasons. (OK, he started a game in 2007.) Todd Wade proved not to be enough insurance by turning the job over to undrafted rookie Stephon Heyer last season, and all combined to make the offense considerably weaker running around right end than it was anywhere else. On top of that, the top four guards on the roster are all at least 32. Some youth would be good.

On defense, Washington badly needs a pass-rush threat opposite Andre Carter. The team has ranked in the league's bottom half in sacks in each of the past three seasons, including a league-worst 19 in 2006. That was just two more than league leader Shawne Merriman produced by himself … in 12 games.

Will likely settle for: a safety
Reed Doughty will have to do plenty more in 2008 than he did last season to prove he can fill Sean Taylor's shoes. Obviously, most safeties would have trouble measuring up to the late Taylor's ability, but Washington needs a better deep-cover guy to pair with LaRon Landry. The strong safety appears to be a bit better on the stuff that stays in front of him than following deep assignments. Unfortunately, this doesn't look like a good year to find instant help at safety, unless Washington chooses to grab Kenny Phillips in Round 1.
