Team Needs: Oakland Raiders

Hurtin' for: a defensive end
Sure, the team has Derrick Burgess, and he's fine. He produced 27 sacks in his first two seasons in Oakland, and although he has missed six starts in three years, he has been much healthier than he ever was in Philadelphia. He'll also turn 30 in August and currently starts opposite Jay Richardson. It's not hard to realize why Burgess notched just eight sacks in 2007 and the team collected the fifth-fewest in the league. Anyone who thinks that free agent Kevin Carter is the answer needs to check out his sack totals for the past five seasons. Fortunately for the Raiders, this is probably the draft's strongest position.

Should be lookin' for: a receiver and some O-line depth
Javon Walker could be the answer … if the question is who will fill the "void" left by Randy Moss' departure. Walker is a good player when he's healthy, but it's tough to count on a speed receiver with continuous knee trouble. On the plus side, though, at least he's been a malcontent with each of his two pro teams so far. Even if Walker does work out, however, that leaves the oft-injured Ronald Curry and lots of unproven players behind him. Maybe Johnnie Lee Higgins will prove to be a gamer, but it won't hurt to add to the stable.

Similarly, the Raiders brought in former first-rounder Kwame Harris to take over at left tackle. Maybe he's the answer there, but he sure never was for the 49ers, who haven't exactly been pillars of blocking strength. Offensive tackle doesn't need to be addressed in the first round, but Oakland would be wise to get to it in the second or third.

Will likely settle for: linemen
In the past three drafts, Oakland has selected five offensive linemen, none of whom appears to be a projected 2008 starter, according to the depth chart on the team's website. On the other side of the ball, the team has only brought in three draftees over the same period. Richardson is the lone starter of the three (and unexciting), and last year's third-round end, Quentin Moses, didn't even make it out of camp. The Raiders could get starters on either line in the first three rounds come April, but it's imperative that they at least pick up options.
