*JaMarcus Russell |
QB |
LSU |
|

|
| Staying with Russell here as the top pick although things are starting to get interesting near the top of the board. The Raiders have a few different options but Russell is a nice backup plan to have. If the team keeps Randy Moss the arm strength alone possessed by Russell should get Randy motivated to play again. |

2. |
| Brady Quinn |
QB |
Notre Dame |
|

|
| Joe Thomas will be the fans choice. The question here is was the trade for George Foster supposed to allow the team to take a true franchise QB? I think so, if not for the sole fact that Jon Kitna alone is nothing but a stop gap for franchise quarterbacks. It's happened everywhere he has been. Quinn is far from a sure thing but he would be a better fit than Joey Harrington. |

*Adrian Peterson |
RB |
Oklahoma |
|

|
|
The local kid Brady Quinn is going to be hard to pass up but the Browns have some young arms that can play quarterback with the right weapons around them and experience. Peterson is too good to pass up, look how the team struggled running the football a season ago. This is an instant upgrade and is likely to happen since Jamal Lewis signed a 1-year deal. |

*Calvin Johnson |
WR |
Georgia Tech |
|

|
|
He has been my #1 prospect for this draft since May of 2006 when my first rankings for 2007 were released. Michael Clayton seems to be regressing and Joey Galloway is fighting a battle with Father Time. The Buccaneers land a receiver that can do it all. |

Joe Thomas |

|
| Leonard Davis is gone and Oliver Ross has never worked out at tackle since coming over from Pittsburgh. This isn't the Cardinals biggest area of need but the value cannot be ignored. |

|
*Jamaal Anderson |
DE |
Arkansas |
|

|
|
With Alan Branch looking like he is falling down the boards a bit Anderson becomes the pick here since the Redskins would like a bigger defensive end to play with Andre Carter. They could go smaller with Gaines Adams but I think size is their biggest concern. |

*Ted Ginn Jr. |
WR |
Ohio St |

He doesn't have the size the Vikings are looking for but his big play and return ability is enough to get him a lot of attention in
Minnesota
. A defensive end like Gaines Adams is a possibility as well as a safety. |

|
| To me he is the best defensive player in this draft. I think the Texans may have been leaning towards Reggie Nelson until the Combine numbers on Landry showed he is far and away the #1 safety around. |

Levi Brown |

| This is what we call a "reach" but I feel the Dolphins may try to move down the board and grab a lineman. Alan Branch is a thought here as well. |

*Reggie Nelson |

It used to be taboo to draft a safety in the top 10 overall and now we are seeing more and more instances of players going in the top 10. In this mock we have a pair of safeties in the top 10. Atlanta will take the safety that gets by the Texans, Landry or Nelson makes no difference to the team.

Carriker continues to move up the boards and is selected ahead of Adams because here he is a better fit. |

With Nate Clemens about to become one of the hottest free agents in the league it is time for the Bills to think about some youth at the position. A running back or a receiver are possibilities. |

| Gaines Adams |

Hard to pinpoint where the Rams are looking right now but many will agree this selection will be for a defensive player. Adams is simply the biggest impact player on the board at this point. |

*Greg Olsen |

| Sure a linebacker like Patrick Willis seems like the reasonable pick but with Olsen pushed himself into the middle of the first round after being one of the stars in Indianapolis. |

Paul Posluszny |
LB |
Penn St |

We have rumblings that this team may go back to a 4-3 set. It doesn't matter what formation Pittsburgh runs they need linebackers. Posluszny can play multiple positions so he is a safe pick for the team. |

This just in....the Packers need a running back. Lynch is a candidate for Rookie of the Year as the Packers continue to make progress. |
