Analysis: Hawkins profiles to be a slot receiver in the NFL because he is quick enough to consistently create separation but lacks the speed of a true playmaker. He also needs to add a good deal of muscle if he wants to be able to endure the punishment inflicted on starting wideouts. While he may be known as “the other Cal receiver” in this year’s draft, Lavelle is a legitimate prospect and projects to be an early Day 2 selection. And if he lands in the right situation, Hawkins could contribute solid numbers as a rookie.
