Strengths: Athleticism, quickness, and versatility
Weaknesses: Lacks the bulk of a classic inside linebacker

Statline: In three years at Tennessee, recorded 236 tackles (21 for loss), 6.5 sacks, and one interception. Led the SEC as a junior with 140 tackles.

Technique: Active tackler with the speed to run down plays; is best when protected from blockers behind his defensive tackles

Known Injuries: Left one game and was limited in another with a knee injury during his sophomore season; also missed final four games of redshirt freshman season (2004) with knee injury.

Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON

Analysis: Mayo flourished as a junior after moving to inside linebacker. He has good size and excellent athleticism but lacks the bulk some teams prefer in their middle linebacker. Mayo is certainly capable of moving back outside, but in the right system (such as one with a pair of space-eating defensive tackles) he will make tackles from sideline-to-sideline. At minimum he’ll contribute on special teams until his pro team decides where his talents can best be used.
