![]() Weaknesses: Undersized for a defensive end, lacks pass-rush moves other than speed rush Statline: Bulk of productivity came in final two years at Purdue: 12.5 sacks, 125 tackles, and 30 tackles for loss in 27 games. Technique: Speed rusher who will need to learn cover skills to convert to linebacker at the NFL level Known Injuries: Missed one full game and part of another in his sophomore season (2005) with a fracture in his lower back; missed five games as a junior in high school (2002) with a fractured left leg. Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON Analysis: Avril is the latest “tweener” pass rusher to spring forth from the Purdue campus. He could wind up as an NFL defensive end in the mold of Dwight Freeney, or he may be converted to a rush linebacker—which would necessitate him learning how to cover, backpedal, etc. There’s no question Avril can get after the passer, though, and his athleticism and motor will most certainly punch his ticket into an NFL camp. Where he goes after that depends on the team’s scheme and his ability to bulk up if he remains on the line or turn and cover if he flips to linebacker. |
