Strengths: Size, hands, work ethic
Weaknesses: Lacks top-end speed; started college career as a safety and is still learning the wide receiver position

Statline: Set Kansas State and Big 12 record for receptions with 122, including six games with at least 10 grabs. Totaled 1,606 yards and 11 touchdowns in 12 games.

Technique: Possession receiver with adequate athleticism who makes the tough catch and can make plays after the grab as well.

Known Injuries: Suffered a strained left PCL in 2006 that limited his activity in three games in the middle of his junior season.

Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON

Analysis: Nelson’s 4.49 40 at the Combine didn’t set any land speed records, but it should be enough to help him shake the stigma of being merely a possession receiver. The fact that he’s relatively new to the position only increases his upside, as the former high school sprint champion has decent athleticism, great hands, and a willingness to make the tough play as well. Nelson also possesses some return skills, and his experience on the defensive side of the ball suggests he’ll contribute on special teams while his wide receiver skills get up to an acceptable NFL level.
