![]() Weaknesses: Unable to stay healthy Statline: In 42 games over four active seasons at Tennessee, Cottam caught just 21 balls for 341 yards and one touchdown Technique: Physical specimen who has been unable to stay healthy long enough to be productive. Known Injuries: Missed first nine games of senior season after surgery to repair a fractured left wrist suffered in August 2007. Underwent surgery in April of 2007 to repair sports hernia. Missed most of preseason workouts redshirt freshman year due to a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery and forced him to miss spring practices in 2005. Underwent surgery to repair torn ligaments in thumb in spring 2004 after being redshirted as a true freshman. Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON Analysis: Cottam is a mouthwatering combination of size and physical ability, but his injury history will drive his draft stock down. He should be an adept NFL tight end, with good hands and speed and enough size to be able to block in the pros; however, with five times as many surgeries as touchdowns during his stay at Tennessee and an automobile accident tossed in for good measure, he’s shaping up to be the next Stephen Alexander or Eric Johnson: a talented tight end who can’t stay on the field long enough to live up to his potential. Of course, assuming he doesn’t tear his ACL en route to the podium on draft day, he’ll at least start his NFL career with a clean injury slate. |
