![]() Weaknesses: Thin frame, faced a lower level of competition in college, lacks top-end speed Statline: Fell just 61yards shy of Barry Sanders’ NCAA single-season rushing record, finishing his junior year with 2,567 yards on 450 carries. He scored 30 touchdowns as a junior and all told amassed 5,123 yards from scrimmage and scored 46 touchdowns in 36 games over three seasons. Technique: Upright runner who may absorb more punishment than other backs. Strong inside runner with good patience and vision but lacks elite breakaway speed. Known Injuries: Shoulder injury cost him four games at the end of his sophomore season of 2006. Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON Analysis: Smith was ultra-productive at Central Florida, and despite concerns about the level of competition any time you rush for 2,500 yards and score 30 touchdowns you’re doing something right. He’s been saddled with the “runs too upright” tag, but despite that knock he’s a solid between-the-tackles runner. Scouts are concerned his thin frame won’t hold up to an NFL pounding and that he may not have the speed to get to the corner on Sundays. Still, a back with his size, speed, vision, patience, and productivity will receive an opportunity to contribute in the NFL. |
