![]() Weaknesses: Inconsistent footwork and lack of a closing burst Statline: Recorded eight interceptions, 22 passes defended, and 166 tackles in three seasons at Oklahoma. Technique: Versatile enough to play any position in the secondary; also capable of being a shutdown corner. Known Injuries: Broke big toe on right foot in Big 12 championship game and missed Fiesta Bowl in 2007; injury also kept him from running at the Combine. Left knee sprain in 2006 did not cost him any time. Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON Analysis: Smith started at both corner and safety for the Sooners during his 39 games (37 starts) in three seasons at Oklahoma. Because of the broken toe he didn’t run at the Combine, where a quick 40 time might have assured him of being picked in the first round. As it stands, his body of work in college should make him a first-day selection. His cover skills and versatility will allow him to step in and contribute immediately, as a nickel corner if not a starter. Smith’s instincts and a perceived lack of top-end speed might ticket him for safety work as a pro, and his tackling skills wouldn’t hurt him in that regard. |
