![]() Weaknesses: Smallish, little experience in routes other than “go deep” Statline: Finished four-year career at Houston with 210 catches for 3,289 yards and 19 touchdowns Technique: Burner whose strength is going deep. Known Injuries: Hyperextended his left knee and sprained his MCL in spring practice, 2007. Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON Analysis: The NFL loves speed, so Avery’s wheels should land him a spot on the Day One draft board. Aside from his fast feet, however, he’s a bit of a project. He’s on the small side and has little experience running NFL routes coming out of Houston’s spread offense. Some scouts have also expressed concern about his hands, but they appear to be in the minority. Avery isn’t averse to hard work, so while his route-running may require some polishing there’s little reason to believe he won’t dedicate himself to the task. Avery also brings some skills in the return game to the table, and NFL clubs will have a tough time looking past that blinding speed. Avery may not be slated for an immediate pro impact, but with his speed you can rest assured some team will make room for him and look for ways to take advantage. |
