Strengths: Size, speed, hands, and leaping ability.
Weaknesses: Can rely too much on his athleticism; must prove wrist injury is behind him.

Statline: Scored 20 touchdowns in 50 games at Texas, including a school record-tying 12 as a junior. Totaled 1,915 yards on 124 catches, averaging 15.4 yards per catch.

Technique: Has the athletic ability and physical gifts to be a prototypical NFL receiver.

Known Injuries: Played through a slight fracture and ligament damage in left wrist for six games in 2007 before ultimately undergoing surgery. Reinjured wrist during Senior Bowl practices and did not participate in the game.

Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON

Analysis: Sweed’s injury-marred senior season dropped him from his preseason perch atop the receiver rankings, and concerns about that wrist may bump him into the second round. However, a 4.46 40 at the Combine may reinstate him as the top wideout in this year’s class. He has the size, hands, and leaping ability to be a dominate receiver, though his athletic ability may actually be to his detriment as he is still learning some of the nuances of playing receiver because to this point he’s been able to get by on sheer athleticism alone. There is little concern about Sweed not working to master his position, and whether he’s the first or fifth receiver off the board on draft day if he is able to put his wrist issues in the rear view mirror he has the potential to become an elite NFL pass catcher.
