![]() Weaknesses: Did not play against elite competition Statline: In 48 career games had four interceptions, 22 passes defended, and 173 tackles; also returned seven punts and one kick for touchdowns. Technique: Athletic and aggressive enough to excel in all types of coverage. Known Injuries: Missed Senior Bowl with hamstring injury. Surgery in April 2006 for fractured right ankle. Sprained left shoulder in spring practice 2005. Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON Analysis: McKelvin is the latest player to emerge from Troy (following in the footsteps of DeMarcus Ware and Osi Umenyiora) and burst onto the national scene, so his lack of elite competition is unlikely to hinder his draft value. McKelvin has good size and plays the run aggressively; he also possesses good athleticism and can blanket opposing receivers. What sets him apart are the return skills that netted him eight return touchdowns (tied for the NCAA record) and a school-record 3,909 all-purpose yards despite touching the ball just twice on offense. When scouts begin to nitpick McKelvin’s game they talk about less-then-stellar instincts, inconsistent hands and concentration, and questions about his durability. None of that will keep him out of the first round, and he’ll most likely be the first corner off the board on draft day. Recent News:
The Buffalo Bills selected the Troy cornerback with the 11th pick in the first round of Saturday's NFL Draft. McKelvin was a three-time first-team All-Sun Belt selection.
Insight: The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder not only gives Buffalo a standout cover corner, but he's also an electrifying return specialist. He returned three punts for TDs last season. (Michael Hicks/SportsBuff.com) More Reports2008-04-26 13:23:12 |
