![]() Weaknesses: Too aggressive at times. Statline: Phillips accumulated 82 tackles and a pair of picks in 2007. Technique: Phillips likes to play centerfield, allowing him to read and react to the play in front of him. Known Injuries: Sat out three games in 2006 with a broken thumb. Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON Analysis: Phillips’ status as the top safety in this year’s class is a result of his impressive skills but also the lack of an elite prospect among the group. He was a starter for most of his three years at Miami because of his ability to play well against both the run and pass. Kenny can man centerfield effectively while also matching up with slot receivers. He also is strong in run support, although scouts have noticed a tendency to bite on play fakes more than a player with his experience should. However, that is a correctable flaw, yet there is no way to teach the athletic ability he possesses, which is why he will be off the board in the first round. Recent News:
Phillips became the final pick of the first round on Saturday when the Giants selected him 31st overall.
Insight: Phillips looked like a top 10 guy heading into his junior season but saw his value drop precipitously through a rough season for the whole team. He could start for the Giants this season, but he'll have to beat out James Butler or Sammy Knight. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com) More Reports2008-04-26 18:23:54 |
