Strengths: Pass rushing.
Weaknesses: Inconsistent.

Statline: Vernon had 37 tackles and 14 sacks last season.

Technique:

Gholston gets off the ball very quickly, which allows him to effectively rush the passer.

Known Injuries: Broken hand in 2005.

Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON

Analysis: If a team is looking to add an immediate impact player to their pass rush, Vernon is the guy they will target, which is exactly why he is not expected to make it out of the top 15. Gholston is one of an increasing number of hybrid defensive ends who can also stand up and play outside linebacker if called upon. That type of flexibility will make him an attractive candidate to teams regardless of their base defense. However, the fact that he has struggled stopping the run at times and questions about his consistently do raise some minor red flags.

Recent News:
The New York Jets, with the No. 6 pick in Saturday's NFL Draft, selected Gholston, a second-team All-American in 2007.
Insight: The Jets weren't able to get Boston College QB Matt Ryan or Arkansas RB Darren McFadden, both taken off the board before they got on the clock, but they land the Buckeyes DE, who, ironically, had great success against Michigan's Jake Long, the first pick by AFC East rival Miami.
