![]() Weaknesses: Could add strength and bulk to his frame Statline: Allowed just two sacks for his career, starting 20 of 23 games in three seasons at Vandy. Technique: Has size and quick feet of the prototypical left tackle. Known Injuries: None. Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON Analysis: Williams’ college career started slowly, with a redshirt year and a year of academic ineligibility. He played primarily guard as a sophomore, then moved over to tackle and never looked back. By the time he had completed his career at Vanderbilt he had allowed just two sacks and positioned himself as one of the top left tackle prospects in the draft. He has the frame and the quick feet NFL general managers dream about when envisioning their left tackle; teams believe they can add the bulk and strength he’ll require to develop into an elite pro player. Worst-case he can move inside and be a successful guard, but that’s not why he’ll be drafted in the first round. His natural mobility would lend itself well to a zone-blocking scheme as well, so he’d be a great fit for a team like the Texans or Broncos that requires both a top-flight pass protector and an athletic lineman capable of getting downfield. He’ll be among the half-dozen or so linemen who go off the board in the first 40 picks, with the potential to be as good as any in this class. Recent News:
With the 14th pick in the first round of Saturday's NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears selected the 6-foot-6, 315-pound left tackle from Vanderbilt.
Insight: The Bears have a lot of needs on offense -- QB, RB, WR and OL. With Williams they get an anchor on the O-line, who should help protect whomever starts at QB and provide solid run-blocking support for the RBs. (Michael Hicks/SportsBuff.com) More Reports2008-04-26 13:39:56 |
