![]() Weaknesses: Plays high. Struggles with speed rushers. Statline: Set school record with 51 consecutive starts, 37 on the right side and 14 on the left side during his senior season. Was named All-ACC Second Team. Technique: Mauler; prototypical right tackle with potential to develop into an above-average left tackle. Known Injuries: Arthroscopic knee surgery during his redshirt year of 2003. Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON Analysis: Cherilus has the frame and strength to play tackle in the NFL, but he struggled with a switch to the left side during his senior season at Boston College—especially with speed rushers. As such, he may be best suited to play on the right side or perhaps even guard in the NFL. His technique requires refinement, and some scouts have questioned his intensity. He demonstrated some inconsistency during Senior Bowl practices but later in the week was dominant; it’s that sort of potential—combined with his ginormous frame—that could take Cherilus off the board in the first or early second round of the draft. If asked to play immediately he is capable of stepping in on either side and doing an adequate job, and there is certainly the upside that he could develop into a dominant tackle—maybe even on the left side. Recent News:
With the 17th pick in the first round in Saturday's draft, the Detroit Lions select the offensive tackle from Boston College.
Insight: Detroit passed on RB in Round 1, with Illinois' Rashard Mendenhall on the board, to sure up the offensive line. What does this mean for Tatum Bell and the Lions' running game? (Michael Hicks/SportsBuff.com) More Reports2008-04-26 14:10:31 |
