Strengths: Strength. Versatility.
Weaknesses: Speed.

Statline: Long had 79 tackles, 14 sacks and 23 quarterback hurries in 2007.

Technique:

Long uses his strength and leverage to gain the advantage over blockers. He excels at rushing the passer but is also strong against the run.

Known Injuries: None.

Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON

Analysis: Long was considered a first-round talent entering the season, but a strong senior campaign that featured 14 sacks now has him ranked among the elite prospects. Not blessed with tremendous lateral speed, Howie’s kid makes up for it with excellent strength and technique. He is strong against the run and possesses an excellent bull rush to get to the passer. On top of that, he has (to use every announcer’s favorite cliché) “a motor that never stops.” Chris isn’t considered a can’t-miss prospect; however, he is the top defensive end on the board and his versatility will allow him be a terror off the edge in both 3-4 and 4-3 defenses.

Recent News:
With the No. 2 pick in Saturday's NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams selected the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. 6-3 272
Insight: The 6-foot-2, 272-pound Long was being considered as the No. 1 pick a month ago, but he goes to the Rams at No. 2. The surprise is that St. Louis, reportedly according to ESPN's Michael Smith, had LSU's Glenn Dorsey ranked higher on their draft board. (Michael Hicks/SportsBuff.com)
