Strengths: Tough, physical, aggressive. Very strong. Good hands. Excellent straight-line speed for his size.
Weaknesses: Not an elusive runner. Has had fumbling issues.

Statline: More than half of his 2,066 career rushing yards came as a freshman at Division III Wisconsin-River Falls. In three seasons at West Virginia, carried 160 times for 1,003 yards and 13 touchdowns. Also caught 32 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns.

Technique: Classic throwback fullback, with an added dose of ball-carrying ability

Known Injuries: Has played through quadriceps, knee, and ankle injuries in the past.

Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON

Analysis: To project Schmitt as merely another Lorenzo Neal type of bulldozer would be selling him short. Yes, Schmitt can be a punishing lead blocker, though his strength can be negated by his failure to stay low. But Schmitt is also a pile-moving runner who was stopped behind the line of scrimmage just four times in his entire college career. He also has outstanding speed once he bulls through the line, though he’s not going to make anyone miss by changing directions. Schmitt is also an adept pass-catcher who has worked at tight end in the past, though he may be a bit short for that role in the NFL. After playing in the Mountaineers run-heavy spread offense he’ll need to adapt to the pro game schematically, but his strength and aggressiveness will certainly be put to good use as a blocking back and short-yardage runner.

Recent News:
Schmitt became a Seahawk late in the fifth round on Sunday.
Insight: Projections were all over the place for the former Mountaineer fullback, but this seems like about the right spot in the draft. He'll have to beat out Leonard Weaver for significant playing time in Seattle. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)
