Strengths: Good size, solid hands, outstanding open field runner.
Weaknesses: Only one productive season at the major college level.

Statline: Broke Lorenzo White’s school record for all-purpose yardage with 1,260 receiving yards, a Big 10 record 1,135 kickoff return yards, 177 rushing yards and 18 punt return yards. Also scored eight touchdowns.

Technique: Classic West Coast receiver: size, speed and the ability to rack up yards after the catch.

Known Injuries: None.

Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON

Analysis: Thomas looks to cash in on one spectacular season, so the obvious concern is that he’s a one-hit wonder. However, there’s little question his physical skills—size, hands, open-field running ability—will make him a sought-after commodity on draft day, if for no other reason than the Devin Hester effect. Thomas is a skilled kick returner, as evidenced by a Big 10-record 1,135 kickoff return yards last season, and the Spartans went out of their way to get the ball into his hands. Assuming his final campaign in Lansing wasn’t the apex of his career, Thomas will at minimum provide his quarterback with a solid target who can pick up yards after the catch. If he’s able to get deep on NFL caliber defensive backs, he could wind up being the top receiver coming out of this class.
