Strengths: Ability to get open on short routes. Hands. Work ethic.
Weaknesses: Lacks the speed to consistently get open deep.

Statline: 62 catches for 881 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior.

Technique: Davis uses his athletic ability to separate from defenders and is best within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage.

Known Injuries: No injuries of note.

Combine / Workout Assessment: COMING SOON

Analysis: Davis has nothing to be ashamed of in terms of run blocking, but he is the No. 1 tight end because of his ability to be a difference maker in the passing game. Throughout his two years as a starter at Southern Cal, he displayed a knack for separating from linebackers and making tough catches. Fred capped off his senior season by being named USC’s first recipient of the John Mackey Award, given annually to the nation’s top tight end, and was the first tight end in over 20 years to lead the Trojans in receptions. While Davis sits as the top tight end on everyone’s draft board, he lacks an elite skill set, meaning he will have to settle for being selected late in the first round or early in the second stanza.

Recent News:
The Redskins certainly wanted some pass-catchers to fit into the West Coast offense and grabbed Davis with the No. 48 selection. Will be a good tandem with Chris Cooley for new Coach Jim Zorn. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)
